How to care for your gold-plated jewelry so it lasts a lifetime
A guide to caring for and cleaning gold-plated jewelry: what to avoid, how to store it and how to keep the shine of your Aluna pieces.
The question we get most often in the workshop is also the loveliest: "how do I make my piece last forever?". The answer is simpler than it seems, and it starts with understanding how your piece is made.
All our pieces receive two 24k gold baths, one over the other, and a high-temperature lacquer seal. That plating, also known as gold vermeil, is delicate and elegant: it stays beautiful for years if you give it a few simple habits.
First, know its enemies: prolonged water, perfumes, lotions, chlorine and chemicals. Take your jewelry off before showering, swimming, working out or applying perfume, and let the perfume dry before putting your pieces back on.
To clean them, a soft dry cloth is enough. If you need a little more, slightly dampen the cloth with warm water and dry them right away. Avoid abrasive cleaners, ultrasonic baths and strong polishing cloths, which wear down the gold layer.
When you are not wearing them, store them in their velvet pouch, separate from other jewelry to avoid scratches. With this care, your Aluna piece will keep the shine it had on day one and accompany your story for a long time.
Care for your piece the way you care for a memory, and whenever you want to renew its shine, the Aluna workshop will be here for you.
