The lost-wax technique: the ancestral art of Colombian jewelry
Discover the lost-wax technique, the ancestral method that makes every Aluna piece handmade, unique and unrepeatable.
The Aluna workshop smells of wax and patience. Every piece begins as a wax model carved by hand by our goldsmiths, and in that first shape the whole story already lives: the design, the artisan, and the stone that will inhabit it.
Lost-wax is one of the oldest casting techniques in human history, and it remains the soul of Colombian artisanal jewelry. It consists of sculpting a model in wax, covering it in a plaster mold and pouring the metal: the wax is "lost" and leaves its space to the gold.
The artisan's hand always leaves its mark. That is why no piece is exactly like another: each one carries the imprint of its maker, the millimeters they chose, more or less, at the tip of a chisel.
It is a slow, meticulous and deeply human process that honors the tradition of the pre-Columbian goldsmiths who mastered this technique over a thousand years ago, when gold was understood as the embodiment of the sun's energy.
When it is finished, every piece receives its two 24k gold baths and a lacquer seal. By wearing a piece made with the lost-wax technique, you carry that tradition with you: the patience of the workshop, the ancestral technique, and the certainty of holding a unique piece in your hands.
Come and discover the workshop through our pieces: every handmade piece from Colombia carries the memory of the lost-wax technique and the hands that created it.
